DecoArt ideas: Mixing Art & Craft is More Fun!

Updated: Sep 8, 2023

When I studied the fine arts most of the focus was around learning painting, sculpting, and drawing techniques. I've always loved going to craft shows, seeing the wonderful handmade objects, and bringing something special to my home. Today I find myself gravitating towards combining fine art techniques with crafting to create something a bit more exciting and different. Here DecoArt gives you some ideas on what you can do when combining techniques.

DecoArt has a wonderful website full of beautiful mixed media ideas and images to inspire the artist in you! Isn't this one absolutely beautiful! Be sure to check them out! For some ideas lets look .at this creation. I see layers of texture, which can be created using thick mediums, sand mediums allow you to press leaves into them when not yet dry leaving impressions, crackle painting techniques can give depth to colors, and then gluing other objects to give you that 3D effect. I love the use of Teal, Green Turquoise and touches of Fuchsia and Yellow. Overall this is an art piece that you just want to start at and become part of.

Supplies to create a similar piece include:

  1. Acrylic paint & Canvas board

  2. Modeling Paste to create textures by pressing leaves from your yard into the paste

  3. Artificial flowers & bee's and some hot glue or e6000
