Great Summer Kids Activity: Painted Tabletop Tiki Torches in Permanent Decoart Glass Paint Markers!

Summer is here! So are those pesky mosquitos, this year I'm vanquishing them with some Tiki Torches filled with Citronella Oil, but first lets make those plain torches look beautiful with Glass paint markers, easy family kid friendly activity (age 7 and up).

DecoArt Glass paint markers are easy to use and permanent too!

Project Timeframe: 30 minutes

Materials & Steps:

1. Glass torch (I used Tiki Torches I found at Home Depot but you can find them in a lot of stores, links below if you like to shop online) wash with warm soapy water or rubbing alcohol to remove dust & grime.

2. DecoArt Permanent Glass Paint Markers in the colors of your choice (I used pink, blue, purple and green on one and added orange & red to the other & these work on both Glass & Ceramics!). These markers have a felt tip with no paint when you receive them, depress several times to release the paint. Then start painting. This Tiki Torch has a glass patter on it already, I just painted in some of the areas to make the design.

3. Optional (add some rubbed on Foil too with Gede Gilding Mixtion Gilding Paste & a Foil Transfer Sheet, then coat with Clear Glass paint - I use FolkArt Clear enamel goes on white, dries clear), and yes I baked it after I gave it a clear coat over the foil so it would not change color!

4. A couple of paper towels (soap/water for easy cleanup)

5. You have two choice to make them permanent.. bake them in the oven after removing the top, Torch & lid.. or wait, the paint becomes permanent after a few hours. I do bake my glass art as normally I am painting Wine Glasses and I want them to be dishwasher-safe but this is a Tiki Torch so I'm not worried. If you decide to bake it place the finished piece in a cool oven, set temperature to 325°F, bake for 30 minutes, turn the oven off & crack the door open. Allow it to completely cool with oven door partially open.

6. Add your Tiki Oil (I like the Tiki Brand Bitefighter with the Citronella Oil), put the top torch back on and you are all set to fight those pesky bugs!

So Pretty, Just paint in the grooves!
