What are skins? They are generally known as removable vinyl that is sized and cut to fit each specific device to personalize and decorate them with a favorite pattern typically applied directly to the device however that gets costly if you want to change your design, and if you want to have a different design for each season, the holidays or after special events it really costs a lot to order them. To save money you can make your own skins and to make them easily swappable you can purchase a clear case like this one for your device and insert different designs between the case and device, let me show you how! I’ve made a few below to give you some ideas, these make great gifts too, and I will be uploading a Youtube video on 8/11/24 on how to make these soon for anyone who wants to watch here! Here's a link to all of the supplies I used in case you want to use any of them, scroll down for the printable template, and for Cricut Access users there is a link to the templates for each of the designs!

How To Create Your Own iPad & Tablet Skins

In this example you get to see your iPad color!

Using the lighter Washi you can bring out more of the flower colors!
In this design a piece of Washi paper was added to the Acetate before the flowers for a two toned look!

1. Realistic Dried Flower Stickers

Transform your device into a blooming masterpiece by creating your own dried flower stickers. Simply purchase a clear case for your iPad or Tablet, cut a piece of clear acetate to fit in between the case and tablet, arrange the flower stickers in a design you love, then peel and stick them to the acetate! If you have a cutting machine scroll down for free iPad templates you can import to use that cut out holes for the camera and even the Apple logo (this fits the iPad Air M2 2024 design), or if you have Cricut Access you can locate those on my Access profile here and modify them to fit your own device. Have fun creating these nature-inspired designs letting your creativity blossom! I did two designs, one with just the flowers, and another with some Washi tape on the lower half. Tip: to make applying the flowers easier I use regular scotch tape to remove the sticker from the clear backing, then holding that tape I apply them, sometimes I use a toothpick to hold the bottom of the longer ones while I place them. Be careful not to touch the sticky side of the flower (I did that and it left my finger prints on the sticker, not a good look). Flower stickers can be found here! And here is the Cricut User link to base template for device backing cutouts.

2. Favorite Sayings

Express yourself with words by designing custom skins featuring your favorite quotes or sayings. All you need is a printer, copy papers and scissors or cutting machine and your imagination to turn your tablet into a canvas of inspiration. Spread positivity with every swipe! On my “Be Kind To Other’s” botanical design brings nature with you all day long! I’ve used some materials I already had on hand: Cricut Foil Acetate Bejeweled & Premium Vinyl in Anna Griffin Charlotte black & white design. Cricut user Access link: Be Kind to Others.

3. Monogram Gifts

Looking for a thoughtful gift idea? Create personalized monogram skins for your loved ones. Whether it's their name initials or a special date, a monogram skin adds a touch of elegance to any device. It's a stylish way to show you care! In these designs I used the Monogram space to spell out: “Live Love Laugh”; you could replace that with “Mr. & Mrs. XXX” or Est. 2024 or a name, whatever fits! On the second design I cut out a free leaves frame image from Cricut Access and then cut out initials inside of it in a different vinyl. On both designs I decided to try putting them on cardstock I already had. I used Cricut removable matte vinyl In Bloom Pink paper with some Cricut Adhesive Foil Matte in Teal. 4. Favorite Manga or Disney Character

Unleash your inner fandom with DIY skins featuring your beloved manga or Disney characters. Buy stickers and if they are unavailable make something similar like this one. The magical world of creativity lets you design skins that reflect your passion for these iconic characters. Here I’ve taken standard images and merged them inside of Cricut Access cutting software to create a silhouette that is similar to one I loved in my youth (since I could not find that one online anymore, can you guess which character?). I cut out the silhouettes in glossy black vinyl and adhesive foil matte Teal and used a piece of card stock for the background. Cricut user Access link to the Sihlouette images

5. Easily Swappable Designs

Why settle for one design when you can have multiple? When using Card stock as the base you can make it two sided and just flip them over whenever you want! When using crafters acetate be sure to peel back the cover coating sheet that most have on them before applying your stickers or vinyl.  If you don’t have a cutting machine, you can certainly cut out the design with scissors, print the template below on copy paper first to test the size, cut it out and if it’s too small increase the printer setting to more than 100%, if it’s too big decrease the printer setting to less than 100%. The protective clear coating is like saran wrap, thin and usually both sides.
Be sure to peel back the clear protective coating on your Acetate!

6. Sustainable Fabric Skins

Embrace eco-friendly crafting by making skins from old fabrics you have already at home, it just has to be thin cloth but if you have an old t-shirt with a design you love that has seen better days you can certainly cut it to fit then place it between the clear case and your device. Show off your style while being kind to the environment!

7. Holidays

Wishing you all a very Happy Holiday Season this year!
A combination of a merged print n cut sticker and 3 different colors of vinyl on a metallic Bronze card stock!

Celebrate the holidays with different skins! Here I’ve made two different types: Gnome for the Holidays is a Print n Cut sticker image from Cricut Access (each Gnome is a separate image but I’ve combined them into one image and printed on white sticker paper for easier application) and the saying is Glitter Vinyl placed onto clear Acetate using my Cricut and transfer tape. In the “Just a Girl Christmas Tree’s” design I used printable sticker paper on top of white card stock! In the Thanksgiving image I used Printable sticker paper for the truck and pumpkins merging two images for easier application, then cut out the saying with permanent Vinyl: Orange, Pink and Brown placing all on Metallic Bronze Card stock. You are limited only by your own imagination! Cricut user Access link: Thanksgiving, Gnome Christmas, Girl Who Loves Christmas Trees.

8. Abstract Art Patterns

Let your artistic side shine by designing abstract art patterns for your tablet skins. Experiment with colors, shapes, and textures to create one-of-a-kind designs that reflect your creativity. Your tablet will become a gallery of your imagination!

9. Family Photo Collages

You most likely have a lot of family photos on your device, searching and finding your favorites becomes a lot harder as hundreds of photos eventually turns into thousands, why not create a collage of your favorites using your device photo software and print it out as one single image on copy paper, cut to fit and insert it. After a while change it with newer ones.

A place to stash emergency cash? Just a thought, now that you’ve created a few of your favorite designs if any are on Card Stock you can use the space between the design and tablet to stash a bit of cash for emergencies or coffee, etc. and no one will know since card stock is not see through and these clear rubber cases are so easy to remove and put back on too.
